Infiniti airbag codes come out of the diagnosis sensor unit and land in the B1000 range, with newer models adding B00 codes. The table is laid out by component rather than by severity, so two codes that look almost identical can mean a loose connector on one and a locked module on the other.
Infiniti calls the airbag computer the air bag diagnosis sensor unit, abbreviated ACU through the repair procedures. It mounts on the floor tunnel under the center console between the front seats. Infiniti shares this architecture with Nissan, so the module, the naming, and the code table read the same on a Q50 as they do on an Altima.
Where Infiniti diverges is content. The luxury models carry more of the optional restraint loops as standard, so more of the code table is live. A well-equipped QX has front airbags, front side airbags, roof curtains, dual-stage front pretensioners, satellite sensors on both sides, and an occupant classification system, which is far more circuits reporting than a base sedan. Module location by model is on our Infiniti airbag service page.
The Infiniti table is built component by component, and each component gets the same four failure modes in the same order: open, shorted to a power supply circuit, shorted to ground, and shorted to itself or to its partner circuit. The driver airbag is B1049 through B1052, repeated as B1054 through B1057 for the second loop. The front passenger airbag runs B1065 to B1073, the front pretensioners B1081 to B1089, the front side airbags B1129 to B1137, the roof curtains B1145 to B1153, and the second-stage pretensioners B1177 to B1185.
In between those groups sit blocks that all say one thing. B1001 to B1015, B1026 to B1031, B1042 to B1047, B1058 to B1063, B1074 to B1079, B1106 to B1111, B1122 to B1127, B1138 to B1143, B1170 to B1175, and B1202 to B1207 are the diagnosis sensor unit reporting itself out of order.
Two codes carry the crash record. B1209 is frontal collision detection, set when the front seat belt pretensioners and front airbags have deployed. B1210 is side collision detection, set when the side and curtain airbags have deployed. Those two are the stored-event codes a module-level crash data reset is aimed at. Everything else is the module reading a circuit in real time.
Codes with a link have their own page. Crash data clears with a module reset; hardware and circuit faults need the part fixed or replaced first.

A generic OBD2 reader will not show any of this. The diagnosis sensor unit answers on a separate path, and the factory tool is CONSULT, in its CONSULT-II, CONSULT-III and CONSULT-III plus versions. On older Infinitis the airbag lamp itself flashes a code chart, which is why some cars arrive with a flash count rather than a printed code.
Infiniti is strict about power-down. The procedures call for ignition off, both battery terminals disconnected, and at least three minutes of wait to discharge the backup capacitor before any restraint work. On cars with the occupant classification system, reprogramming the occupant sensor involves a zero point reset through CONSULT with a dedicated OCS cable. Seat cushion work is not finished until that reset has run.
The driver airbag open circuit codes, B1049 and B1054, come in constantly, and the airbag itself is usually fine. The driver airbag circuit runs through the spiral cable in the steering column, and the manual's own diagnostic tree sends you there once the harness checks out. A car that sets B1049 after steering wheel or column work usually has a spiral cable problem.
The occupant classification codes are the other regular. The sensor lives in the passenger seat cushion with its control unit, and Infiniti's repair order replaces the cushion and the control unit together as an assembly. On newer models the same complaint shows up as B00A0, and Infiniti has addressed some of those with reprogramming rather than parts.
It is the frontal collision record, set when the front airbags and front seat belt pretensioners have deployed. The manual's path is to inspect and replace each deployed component. The stored event stays in the module until it is cleared in our shop.
Yes. Infiniti runs the same diagnosis sensor unit and the same B-code table as Nissan, so B1049 is a driver airbag open circuit on both. Infiniti models simply carry more restraint hardware as standard, so more of the table applies.
Check the spiral cable in the steering column. The driver airbag circuit runs through it, and Infiniti's own diagnostic order sends you there once the harness and connectors check out clean.
The occupant classification system turns the passenger airbag off when the seat is empty or holds a child. If the light stays on with an adult in the seat, look at the B1017 to B1022 group, or B00A0 on newer models.
No. Generic readers cannot reach the diagnosis sensor unit, and even a CONSULT tool will not erase a stored collision record. Circuit faults clear once the failed part or wire is fixed.
