What B1065 means

The front passenger airbag mounts in the instrument panel, and its firing circuit runs behind the dash to the diagnosis sensor unit. That circuit has to hold a specific low resistance. An open reading means the path is broken somewhere between the module pin and the inflator, and the module cannot promise the airbag would fire.

Opens are usually mechanical damage or a connection that came apart. Dash work is the common history: glovebox removal, heater and evaporator jobs, stereo installs, and previous airbag replacements all involve unplugging the passenger airbag. A connector that went back on without latching reads exactly like a cut wire.

Common causes

• The passenger airbag connector unplugged or only partly latched after dash work
• A terminal pushed back in its housing so it never contacts the mating pin
• Harness wire cut or pulled apart behind the instrument panel
• An inflator that has gone open internally inside the passenger airbag
• Corroded pins at the module connector from water entering at the cowl

Crash data or hardware fault?

Continuity is checked live on this loop, so B1065 exists only while the circuit is broken and clears on its own once it returns. Crash data is the permanent record written after a deployment, and clearing codes with a scan tool has no effect on it. An open circuit and a locked module are different problems.

Does our reset clear it?

Mailing a module in does not close an open circuit. Our service clears stored crash data and restores the module, which is the fix after a deployment and not a fix for broken wiring. Repair the connector, harness, or airbag first. If the diagnosis sensor unit is also locked on crash data, send it once the loop reads correctly.

Which makes throw it

Infiniti and Nissan both report B1065. It names the passenger airbag circuit as open, separate from the codes those makes use for a short to ground or a short to power on the same loop.

What to do next

Drop the glovebox and confirm the passenger airbag connector is fully latched, since a plug that never seated is the most common cause and takes a minute to verify. Measure the loop from the module side next to determine whether the break sits in the harness or inside the inflator.
