What B1020 means

Nissan and Infiniti use an occupant classification system built around sensors in the passenger seat and a control unit that interprets them. Its verdict drives the passenger airbag status light and the decision to enable or suppress that airbag. B1020 means the control unit has reported its own failure or has stopped returning a result the system will accept.

The unit is part of the seat assembly, so it shares everything the seat goes through. Liquid spills, a wet floor, cargo shoved underneath, and every removal for upholstery or carpet work reach it. Owners usually notice the passenger airbag status light behaving oddly before anyone reads a code.
