On Nissan and Infiniti, B1054 is the air bag diagnosis sensor unit reporting the driver airbag module circuit open on the second of its two firing loops. Nissan words it as Driver Air Bag Module, Open, number 2. Mercedes-Benz gives the same number to the driver side seat belt buckle switch, so settle the make before ordering anything.
The driver airbag on these Nissan and Infiniti models is a dual stage inflator. Two firing loops leave the diagnosis sensor unit, run up the column through the spiral cable, and end at the bag in the wheel. The unit measures both and reports on them separately, which is why the first loop has its own code at B1049 and the second gets B1054.
Nissan's repair procedure works from the outside in: the harness connection first, then the driver air bag module, then the spiral cable, then the diagnosis sensor unit. That order matters, because a loose connector at the base of the column produces the same open reading as a bag with a dead squib.
On Mercedes-Benz the number lands somewhere else. B1054 there is a component or signal wire fault at S68/3, the driver side seat belt buckle restraint systems switch. That buckle carries an electronic switch telling the control unit whether the belt is latched, and the module watches its circuit like any other.
Circuit, on both readings of the code. The module is reporting what it measured on a pair of wires, and it retakes that reading every key cycle, so repairing the circuit is what makes the code stop. Watch for one overlap. A driver bag that has deployed reads open on both loops, so on a Nissan hit from the front you will find B1054 and B1049 next to a frontal collision record such as B1209, which is a separate problem from the circuit.
Not on its own. Restoring a module's memory does nothing for a worn spiral cable or an unplugged connector, and the code returns at the next key on. If B1054 is the only code stored, repair the circuit and the light goes out. When the spiral cable is the failed part, replacements are listed under clock springs and deployed inflators under driver airbags. If the vehicle was hit and the unit locked with a stored record, do the physical repairs first, then send it in for an airbag module reset. Where a Mercedes buckle switch is the failure, the fix is on the belt side through seat belt buckle repair.
The Nissan reading applies to Nissan and Infiniti vehicles using the air bag diagnosis sensor unit under the center console, and the Infiniti manuals word it as the driver airbag module circuit open on the second loop. Mercedes-Benz assigns B1054 to S68/3, the driver side buckle switch, and pairs it with B1057 for the passenger buckle at S68/4. Confirm which module reported the code first.
On a Nissan or Infiniti, turn the ignition off, disconnect both battery cables, and let the backup power supply bleed down for at least three minutes before touching an SRS connector. Check the yellow connector under the column and the one behind the wheel, then turn the wheel lock to lock and watch whether the code comes and goes. An intermittent that follows steering angle points at the spiral cable.
On a Mercedes, start at the buckle and the wiring under the seat rail, which moves every time the seat does. Read B1001 and the B1049 through B1051 block in the same session. If you need a part we do not have listed, send us the year, model, and part number.
