B1026 is one of the control unit codes in the Infiniti and Nissan restraint system. The air bag diagnosis sensor unit ran its checks and reported itself out of order. The factory manual prints B1026 through B1031 as one entry with a single detecting condition and a single remedy, so the number by itself does not narrow anything down inside the unit.
Nissan and Infiniti call the restraint control module the air bag diagnosis sensor unit. It bolts under the center console and holds the G sensors for frontal and side collisions plus a spare battery function that keeps the system alive if the main battery is torn loose in a collision. It watches the front airbags, the side and curtain airbags, the belt pretensioners, and the occupant classification system, and reports trouble through the air bag warning lamp.
In the G35 sedan service manual, B1026 appears in a heading that reads B1026, B1027, B1028, B1029, B1030, B1031 DIAGNOSIS SENSOR UNIT. All six share the trouble diagnosis name CONTROL UNIT, the detecting condition diagnosis sensor unit is out of order, and one listed remedy: replace diagnosis sensor unit. The same manual's flash code chart puts B1001 through B1015, B1026 through B1031, B1042 through B1047 and several more ranges on that one line. Different numbers, one meaning.
These vehicles can also report the fault without a scan tool. Turning the key on, waiting for the lamp to illuminate for seven seconds, switching off within one second, waiting more than three seconds, and repeating three times puts the system into diagnosis mode, where the lamp blinks out the malfunctioning portion.
Hardware. B1026 is the unit reporting on itself, not a record of a collision, and no deployment is implied by the number. The factory procedure still does not start at the parts counter. Step one is checking the harness connectors and terminals, step two is inspecting the wiring for damage, and only after both pass does the manual say to replace the unit. That order is there because a poor connection at the console produces the same complaint as a failed unit.
It depends on what is actually wrong inside. If the unit failed internally, clearing memory changes nothing and the code returns at the next key on. Then work the two checks the factory puts ahead of replacement. Look at the harness connectors at the unit under the console for correct seating and clean terminals, and run the harness for physical damage. If both are good and the scan tool still reports the diagnosis sensor unit, that is the point to send it to us for testing rather than ordering a replacement outright.
