B1121: Left Satellite Sensor Mismatch

What B1121 means

Every satellite sensor carries an ID the control unit checks at startup. That ID tells the module what kind of sensor is installed and what the numbers coming back from it mean. When the left sensor answers with an ID the module was not built to accept, the module refuses the input and stores B1121 instead of using data it has no safe way to interpret.

This code usually follows a repair. A used sensor pulled from a different trim level, a superseded part that looks identical, or a sensor installed on the wrong side will all mount and plug in fine while still reporting the wrong identity. The physical fit tells you nothing about whether the module will accept what the sensor says about itself.

Common causes

• A replacement left satellite sensor from a different model or trim than the vehicle calls for
• Left and right sensors swapped during installation
• A salvage sensor carrying an ID the module was not programmed to accept
• A control unit from another vehicle installed without matching the sensor set
• Intermittent connector contact that garbles the ID message at startup

Crash data or hardware fault?

Infiniti groups B1121 with hardware faults because the module is judging a component rather than measuring a circuit. It is not stored crash data. Crash data is written after a deployment and stays in the module permanently, while B1121 clears as soon as the module reads a sensor ID it accepts.

Does our reset clear it?

Resetting the module does not teach it to accept the wrong sensor. If the installed left sensor carries an ID this module rejects, it will reject it again after the reset. Matching the part to the vehicle is the fix. When you send us a module that also holds deployment data, the reset handles that side of the problem.

Infiniti is the make that reports B1121 in our lookup. Because the identity check is done by the control unit, the same mismatch on a different make sets a different code number with the same underlying story.

What to do next

Compare the part number on the installed left sensor against the one the vehicle originally carried before you test anything electrical. Confirm it is on the correct side, since the left and right units can look nearly identical.
