What the SRS unit does on your Honda

Honda and Acura call the airbag computer the SRS unit, the control module for the supplemental restraint system. It reads the impact sensors, fires the airbags and pretensioners in a crash, and writes a permanent deployment record to its memory. It is also where Honda stores the system's fault history.

Once a crash record is written, the SRS unit locks and the airbag light stays on. A standard scan tool cannot clear it because the data lives inside the unit. We reset your original Honda SRS unit in our shop, erase the stored crash data and hard codes, and return it factory-ready. It keeps its original calibration, so it plugs straight back in and works the moment you reinstall it.

Where the Honda SRS unit is located

On most Hondas the SRS unit sits under the center console toward the back, low on the floor near the center of the car, often under the radio and HVAC stack on the floor pan. On an Accord, Civic or CR-V you remove the console and lower dash trim to reach it, then unbolt it from the floor.

Honda is strict about timing. Turn the ignition off, disconnect both battery cables, and wait at least three minutes before you touch the SRS, because the airbags and pretensioners can still deploy for about three minutes after the power comes off. Then unbolt the unit and release its connectors. The location moves a little across the Accord, Civic, CR-V and Pilot.
