What the diagnosis sensor unit does on your Nissan

Nissan and Infiniti name the airbag computer the air bag diagnosis sensor unit. It is the control unit for the supplemental restraint system. It monitors the driver and passenger airbag circuits through the spiral cable, checks for opens and shorts, fires the airbags and pretensioners in a crash, and stores a permanent deployment record.

Once the crash data is stored, the unit locks and the airbag light stays on. A standard OBD2 scanner cannot clear it because the data lives inside the sensor unit. We reset your original Nissan diagnosis sensor unit in our shop, erase the stored crash data and hard codes, and return it factory-ready. It keeps its original configuration, so it plugs straight back in and works the moment you reinstall it.

On most Nissans the air bag diagnosis sensor unit is mounted low and centered, under the center console on the floor tunnel between the front seats. On the Altima and Rogue you remove the center console trim and the surrounding panels to reach it, then unbolt it from the floor.

Disconnect the battery and let the system discharge before you touch any of the yellow SRS connectors or wiring. Then unbolt the sensor unit and release its connector. The exact spot moves a little across the Altima, Rogue, Sentra and Maxima, so call us if you cannot put your hands on yours.
