What the center airbag sensor assembly does on your Toyota
Toyota and Lexus name the airbag computer the center airbag sensor assembly, sometimes called the airbag ECU. It is the heart of the supplemental restraint system. It reads the impact and occupant sensors, decides when to fire each airbag and pretensioner, and writes a permanent record of any deployment into its memory.
On many Toyotas it also ties into the occupant classification system that decides whether the front passenger airbag should arm. Once a crash record is stored, the assembly locks and the airbag light stays on, and a generic scanner cannot clear it.
