Cadillac uses GM's SDM and GM's B-code map, so the Escalade reads out exactly like a Tahoe. The Cadillac wrinkles are in the content around the module: a passenger presence system that has to be rezeroed, hybrid crash sensors that answer to a different module, and a set of running board codes that get mistaken for restraint faults constantly.
GM's name for the unit is the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module, SDM, and the system is SIR, the supplemental inflatable restraint system. On the 2011 Escalade GM places it under the center console, the same drawing GM prints for the Tahoe and Yukon. On the CTS sedan it sits underneath the carpet below the center console.
The Escalade carries five airbags in GM's description: driver steering wheel dual stage, passenger instrument panel dual stage, left and right roof rail, and a right rear roof rail. The CTS adds seat belt anchor tensioners the trucks do not have, and puts its side impact sensors inside the doors. Models we service are listed on our Cadillac airbag service page.
Cadillacs on GM's Global A architecture report a code number for the loop or sensor plus a two character symptom byte for the failure. 01 is short to battery, 02 short to ground, 04 open circuit, 0D resistance above threshold, 0E resistance below. The number alone only tells you where to look.
The crash record is B0052 deployment commanded and B0053 deployment commanded with loop faults present. GM calls those latched and says a latched code cannot be cleared. GM's threshold is three buckle pretensioner events or one frontal or side deployment, after which B0052 sets. One more thing worth knowing on an Escalade: B051A through B051D are assist step motor codes, not restraint codes, and they turn up in Cadillac code lists misfiled as airbag faults.
Codes with a link have their own page. Crash data clears with a module reset; hardware and circuit faults need the part fixed or replaced first.

Generic OBD2 will not reach the SDM. GM's own bulletins name the Tech 2, the MDI and the TIS terminal for restraint work, and a replacement module goes through the Service Programming System followed by the Setup SDM Primary Key in BCM and Setup New SDM routines. The setup will not finish while a fault is still current.
Cadillac's passenger presence system needs rezeroing where the Silverado's does not, and GM says so in its own procedure: the PPS requires rezeroing any time the seat cushion trim attachments have been removed or the PPS has been replaced. The routine wants an empty passenger seat, every SIR and PPS connector seated, and all other SIR and PPS codes cleared first. Both the passenger airbag on and off indicators light while it runs.
Deployment commanded will not erase. GM's language is that a latched code cannot be cleared, and reset shops report the tool answers cannot execute routine. That is the code a module-level reset exists to handle, once the deployed hardware has actually been replaced.
Cadillac appears on GM's connector position assurance bulletin alongside the trucks. 08-09-41-002G lists 2007 to 2012 Escalade, 2006 to 2011 DTS, 2008 to 2011 STS, 2008 to 2012 CTS and SRX, and 2008 to 2009 XLR, and blames a loose, missing or damaged CPA retainer at an SIR connector for intermittent deployment loop codes. The CPA seats separately from the connector body, so a plug that looks home can still leave the shorting bars engaged.
The CTS also carries GM's bulletin about conductive objects on the passenger seat. Because the presence system reads capacitance instead of weight, a phone, a tablet, a charging cable or a scan tool set down on the seat can trip a passenger presence code. GM's instruction is to remove the object and clear the codes, and it flags one exception: if the code is set and the seat is wet, that bulletin does not apply.
The architecture and the code text are identical, and GM prints one shared location drawing for both. What differs is restraint content, and the SDM counts that content, so a swapped module sets a system configuration error.
On a Cadillac that usually points at the passenger presence system. GM documents conductive objects on the seat causing it on the CTS, and the system also needs rezeroing whenever the seat cushion trim has been off.
No. GM calls deployment commanded a latched code and states a latched code cannot be cleared. Physical repairs come first, then the stored record gets handled with the module out of the car.
