What B008B means

Sensor 2 is one of the inputs the Escalade Hybrid uses to decide that a real impact happened and the high voltage pack needs to be isolated. The restraint module monitors the sensor continuously, not only during a crash, and B008B is what it stores when the sensor fails its self check or drops off the module entirely.

Nothing about this code says a crash occurred. It says the module cannot verify one of the devices it would rely on if a crash did occur, so the system is running with a known gap. Until sensor 2 answers normally, the light stays on and that gap stays open.

Common causes

• An internal failure in the sensor itself after age, heat, or an earlier impact
• A connector at sensor 2 that has backed out, corroded, or lost its lock
• Chafed or cut wiring in the run between sensor 2 and the restraint module
• A poor mounting surface, since these sensors need solid metal contact to read correctly
• Moisture in the connector body from a leaking seal or a previous repair

Crash data or hardware fault?

This falls on the hardware side of the list, meaning the module is flagging a device fault it can see live. Stored crash data is a different animal. That gets locked into memory the moment airbags fire and stays there permanently, while B008B reflects a present condition that can change the moment the wiring changes.

Does our reset clear it?

A mail-in reset applies once the sensor problem is actually repaired and B008B is only a leftover entry in memory. Sending the module in while sensor 2 is still faulty accomplishes nothing, because the module re-checks its sensors every time the key comes on and writes the code right back. The order of operations matters more than the reset itself.

What to do next

Pull the codes again and note whether B008A or B009F are stored alongside B008B, because two or three sensors failing at once usually means a shared harness or connector rather than three bad sensors.
