What B008A means

On a hybrid Escalade the restraint side of the vehicle carries two jobs during a collision. It fires the airbags, and it tells the high voltage battery system to open its contactors so nobody ends up working around a live pack. B008A covers sensor 1 in that second path, and the module sets it when the sensor stops answering the way its calibration expects.

Because the fault sits in a device the module watches rather than in a deployment loop, the light stays on and the high voltage disconnect logic is degraded until the sensor reads correctly again. The module can only report what arrives at its own pins, so the sensor, its connector, and the wiring back to the module all live inside this code.

Common causes

• A crash impact sensor that has failed internally and no longer answers the module
• A connector at the sensor that is loose, corroded, or not fully latched
• Harness damage or a pinched wire between the sensor and the restraint module
• Body or collision work near the sensor that was finished without reconnecting it
• Corrosion at the sensor mounting bolt or ground from water getting into the area

Crash data or hardware fault?

B008A is filed as a hardware fault rather than stored crash data. Crash data is written once when a deployment happens, stays written, and no scan tool erases it. B008A describes a condition the module is seeing right now, which is why it can come and go with a connector that is only partly seated.

Does our reset clear it?

Our mail-in reset clears stored fault memory and returns the module to a ready state, which helps when B008A is left sitting in memory after the sensor or its wiring has already been repaired. It does nothing for a sensor that is still faulty. The module will look at the same bad input on the next key cycle and set the code again, so handle the sensor first.

B008A comes from Cadillac, and the definition on file is specific to the Escalade Hybrid, where the high voltage system needs crash inputs of its own.

What to do next
