B0023 is a GM circuit code on the right roof rail airbag deployment loop. The module measured that curtain's firing circuit and found it outside the window it expects.
The right roof rail airbag is the curtain that drops down over the passenger side windows during a side impact or a rollover. GM's sensing and diagnostic module keeps a small current flowing through its igniter so it can confirm the device is connected and intact. A resistance reading outside the designed band, or contact with ground or power, results in B0023.
The loop includes more than the airbag. It starts at a module pin, runs through the body harness, climbs the A-pillar, and travels along the roof rail to the curtain connector. Trim clips, headliner fasteners, and the curtain's own mounting tabs all sit along that path, and any of them can pinch a wire in a way the module reads as a bad loop.
B0023 is a live circuit fault rather than stored crash data. GM's module measures the loop repeatedly, so the code follows the actual condition and clears once the reading is back in range. Crash data is written permanently after a deployment, it describes an event instead of a measurement, and a scan tool cannot erase it from the module.
Clearing B0023 without repairing the loop gets you nowhere, since the module rechecks the circuit within seconds of the next key cycle. Repair the connector, harness, or curtain first. If the right curtain already deployed, that assembly has to be replaced and the module will be holding crash data as well, which is the part our mail-in reset service clears.
B0023 is a GM code. Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC all use it with the same meaning, since they share the same restraint diagnostic system and code table across platforms of the same era.
Drop the right A-pillar trim and check that the curtain connector is fully latched and free of corrosion, because a connector disturbed during other work is the most common cause. Measure the loop resistance at the module connector next to separate the harness from the airbag.
