What B0019 means

B0019 names the first-stage inflator circuit for the passenger instrument panel airbag. The control module sends a small current through that loop and measures the resistance it gets back. When the reading sits outside the window the module expects, it stores B0019 and shuts the system down.

The code describes the loop, not the airbag itself. Everything in the path counts: the module pin, the harness under the dash, the yellow connector at the airbag, and the inflator winding inside it. Any one of those can put the reading out of range.

Common causes

• A yellow SRS connector under the dash that is loose, corroded, or not fully latched
• Harness damage from glovebox work, stereo work, or a previous repair
• An inflator that has failed open or shorted internally
• A module pin that is spread, backed out, or corroded
• Water intrusion at the kick panel or under the carpet

Crash data or hardware fault?

This is a hardware circuit fault, not stored crash data. B0019 tracks a live resistance reading, so it clears itself once the circuit reads normal again. Crash data behaves the opposite way: it is written permanently after a deployment and a scan tool cannot erase it.

Does our reset clear it?

A reset is the wrong tool for B0019 on its own. The module is reporting a real electrical condition, so clearing it without fixing the circuit means the code returns as soon as the system runs its next check. Repair the connector, harness, or inflator first. If the vehicle was also in a crash and the module holds deployment data alongside this code, mail us the module and we clear that part.

Which makes throw it

B0019 is a GM code. Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac use it with the same meaning, and it shows up on other GM platforms of the same era.

What to do next

Start at the passenger airbag connector, since a latch that never seated is the most common cause and costs nothing to check. Then measure the loop resistance at the module connector to decide whether the fault is in the harness or the airbag.
