What the ORC does on your Jeep

Jeep uses the same Mopar airbag computer as Chrysler, Dodge and Ram, the ORC, or Occupant Restraint Controller. On a Wrangler, a Grand Cherokee or a Cherokee, the ORC runs the restraint system, sends a diagnostic current through each squib circuit to check the wiring, fires the airbags and pretensioners in a crash, and stores a permanent deployment record.

That record locks the module and keeps the airbag light on, and a generic scanner cannot erase it. We reset your original Jeep ORC in our shop, clear the stored crash data and hard codes, and return it factory-ready. It keeps its Mopar configuration, so it bolts back into your rig and works the moment you reinstall it.

Where the Jeep ORC is located

On most Jeeps the ORC is bolted to the floor pan on the transmission tunnel, under the center console between the front seats, held by three nuts to a welded mount. On the Wrangler, where the console is simpler, it still sits in that center-floor position under the console trim and shifter area.

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable and wait about two minutes for the capacitor to discharge before touching the restraint wiring. Then remove the console trim, unbolt the ORC, and release the connector. The location holds across the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee and Compass.
