What the ORC does on your Ram

Ram split off as its own brand but kept the Mopar airbag computer it shares with Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep, the ORC, or Occupant Restraint Controller. On a Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500, the ORC runs the restraint system. It tests each airbag squib circuit at startup, fires the airbags and pretensioners in a crash, and writes a permanent deployment record.

That record locks the module, the airbag light stays on, and no generic scanner can clear it. We reset your original Ram ORC in our shop, wipe the stored crash data and hard codes, and return it factory-ready. For a work truck that needs to stay on the job, resetting your own module beats waiting on a dealer to program a new one.

Where the Ram ORC is located

On Ram trucks the ORC is mounted to the floor pan on the transmission tunnel, under the center console or the center seat area between the front seats, secured with three nuts to a welded mount. On crew-cab trucks you pull the console or the center jump-seat trim to reach it.

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable and wait about two minutes for the system to discharge before touching the restraint wiring. Then unbolt the ORC and release the connector. The location holds across the Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 and the ProMaster vans.
