What the ORC does on your Dodge

Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram all use the same airbag computer, the ORC, or Occupant Restraint Controller. On a Charger, a Challenger or a Durango, the ORC runs the supplemental restraint system. It sends a small diagnostic current through each airbag squib circuit at startup and every half second after, fires the restraints in a crash, and stores a permanent deployment record.

Once that record is written, the ORC locks and the airbag light stays on. A generic scanner cannot clear it. We reset your original Dodge ORC in our shop, wipe the stored crash data and hard codes, and return it factory-ready. It keeps its Mopar configuration, so it plugs straight back in and works the moment you reinstall it.

Where the Dodge ORC is located

On most Dodge vehicles the ORC is bolted to the floor pan on the transmission tunnel, under the center console between the front seats. It is held down by three nuts to a mount welded onto the top of the floor tunnel, so the module sits flat and centered. You remove the console trim to reach it.

Mopar is strict about discharging the system first. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable and wait about two minutes for the capacitor to drain before you touch any restraint wiring. Then unbolt the ORC and release the connector. The location is consistent across the Charger, Challenger, Durango and Journey.
