Buick airbags, seat belts, and mail-in SDM module reset

Buick uses the same GM airbag computer as the rest of the family, the SDM, and much of the same belt hardware found under a Chevrolet or a GMC. Buick stock changes as vehicles are processed, so search the store for your Enclave, Encore, or LaCrosse part, and call 501-988-0611 with the year and the part you need if it is not listed yet. When the module is good hardware and only locked crash data is keeping the light on, mail it in for a reset, and seat belt repair is available at the same time.

SDM (Sensing and Diagnostic Module)

What the SDM does on your Buick

Buick shares the GM corporate airbag computer, the SDM, or Sensing and Diagnostic Module, with Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac. On an Enclave, an Encore or a LaCrosse, the SDM watches the crash sensors, deploys the airbags and pretensioners, and stores a permanent deployment record once it fires.

That stored crash data locks the module and keeps the SRS light on, and a standard scan tool cannot erase it. We reset your original Buick SDM in our shop, clear the crash data and hard codes, and return it factory-ready. It keeps its GM calibration and VIN, so it plugs straight back in and works the moment you reinstall it.

Where it lives

Where the Buick SDM is located

On most Buicks the SDM is mounted under the center console between the front seats, bolted to the floor pan on the transmission tunnel, the standard GM layout. On the larger Enclave it can also be found near the center of the floor under the console trim. You pull the trim to reach it.

Disconnect the battery and let the system discharge before working on any restraint wiring, then unbolt the module and release the connector. The location shifts a little between the Enclave, Encore, LaCrosse, Regal and Verano. Call us if you need a hand finding yours.
