What the SRS unit does on your Acura
Acura, as the luxury arm of Honda, names its airbag control unit the SRS unit, sometimes written as the SRS control unit or simply the airbag module. It is the brain of the supplemental restraint system, reading the impact sensors, deciding when to fire the airbags and the belt pretensioners, and writing a permanent record of any deployment into its memory. The same Honda engineering runs through the MDX, RDX, TL, and TLX.
Once the crash data is written, the SRS unit locks and the airbag light stays on. On Honda and Acura, that crash record is a hard code, and sometimes the system holds the light on with no readable code at all. A standard OBD2 scanner cannot erase it, because the data lives in the unit's own memory. We take your original Acura SRS unit in our shop, clear the stored crash data and hard codes, and send it back reading factory-ready. It keeps its original calibration, so it plugs straight back in and works the moment you reinstall it.
