Where the Escape RCM is located
On the Escape the RCM is mounted on the floor in the center tunnel between the front seats, under the center console, often just behind the base of the firewall. On some model years you can reach it by removing the trim panel beside the accelerator pedal and leave the console in place. Either way you unbolt the module from its floor bracket and release the connector.
The module has to sit flat and square on its bracket so it reads crash forces correctly, so it goes back exactly the way it came out. If the floor took damage in the collision, straighten the bracket before reinstalling. Disconnect the battery and let the system discharge before you touch the restraint wiring.
