The Cadillac Escalade uses the SDM, GM's Sensing and Diagnostic Module, to run its supplemental restraint system. The Escalade is Cadillac's full-size SUV built on the same GM truck platform as the Tahoe and Yukon, so it shares the same restraint architecture and module family. The SDM reads the impact sensors, decides whether to fire the front bags, side curtains, and pretensioners, and the instant it does, it records that deployment permanently.

That stored crash data is why the airbag light stays on after an accident. The Escalade's SDM reads its own deployment history, sets hard codes, and locks. A standard OBD2 scanner cannot erase it, because the data lives at the module level, not in the diagnostic memory a scan tool can clear. The light burns steady through every key cycle.
