The Passat sold here from 2012 on is the North American NMS car built in Chattanooga, a separate vehicle from the European B8, and European part numbers do not cross to it. No Passat parts are listed at this time. Why your Passat airbag light will not go off

Volkswagen calls the airbag computer on your Passat the airbag control module, sometimes the ACU. It runs the supplemental restraint system. It reads the impact sensors, fires the airbags and seat belt pretensioners in a crash, and writes a permanent deployment record, often with a supply-voltage code that keeps the warning light on. Once that record is stored, the module locks and the airbag light will not clear on its own.

A generic OBD2 scanner cannot erase that data, because it sits at the module level. VW Passat modules are also coded to the car, so a dealer typically wants to sell and code a new unit. We reset your original Passat airbag control module in our shop, clear the stored crash data and hard codes, and return it factory-ready with its coding intact. Because it keeps the coding it was born with, it works the moment you plug it straight back in, which is how a mail-in airbag module reset saves you up to 80 percent against a new coded module.

Where the Passat airbag control module is located

On the Passat the airbag control module sits in the center of the car, mounted to the floor tunnel hump behind the radio and under the center console. To reach it you remove the center console and trim, and on some years the radio, then unbolt the module from the floor and release its connector. The Passat also carries separate side impact sensors low under the front seats, but those are wiring and sensor parts, not the main module we reset.

Disconnect the battery and let the system discharge before touching any SRS connector. Because the module is coded to the car, note the existing coding before removal if you ever plan to swap modules.
