The Jetta moved onto the MQB platform for 2019, so a MK7 car shares hardware with the Golf and the Tiguan while a MK6 does not, and a part from one generation will not fit the other. No Jetta parts are listed at this time. Why your Jetta airbag light will not go off

Volkswagen calls the airbag computer on your Jetta the airbag control module, sometimes the ACU. It runs the supplemental restraint system. It reads the impact sensors, fires the airbags and seat belt pretensioners in a crash, and writes a permanent deployment record, often along with a supply-voltage code that keeps the warning light on. Once that record is stored, the module locks and the airbag light will not clear.

A generic OBD2 scanner cannot erase that data, because it lives at the module level. On top of that, VW airbag modules are coded to the car, so a dealer usually wants to sell and code a brand new unit. We reset your original Jetta airbag control module in our shop, clear the stored crash data and hard codes, and return it factory-ready with its coding intact. Because it keeps the coding it was born with, it works the moment you plug it back in, which is how a mail-in airbag module reset saves you up to 80 percent against a new coded module.

Where it lives

Where the Jetta airbag control module is located

On most Jettas the airbag control module sits in the center of the car, in front of the gear shifter under the center console, mounted to the floor tunnel. On the MK5, MK6 and MK7 cars you typically pull two pieces of console trim and sometimes the radio to reach it, then unbolt it from the floor bracket. On the older MK4 Jetta the module sits a little differently, lower in the center console area where the dashboard meets the tunnel.

Disconnect the battery and let the system discharge before you touch any SRS connector. Because the module is coded to the car, note the existing coding before removal if you ever plan to swap modules. Then unbolt it and release its connector.
