What B1BBD means

Inside the occupant classification module is a table describing the seat and restraint setup it is supposed to work with. A module leaves the factory with that table empty, and it gets written during installation and setup. B1BBD is stored when the module looks for that table and finds nothing in it.

An unprogrammed table is a different situation than a wrong one. There is no mismatch to sort out and no calibration drifting off baseline, just a step that was never completed. The module holds the code and keeps the airbag lamp on until the configuration is written.

• A new occupant classification module installed and never programmed to the vehicle
• Programming started and interrupted before the configuration table was written
• A module flashed with software but left without its vehicle specific configuration
• A scan tool session that dropped connection during setup
• A replacement module supplied blank and assumed to be plug and play

Crash data or hardware fault?

B1BBD is a hardware category code because it reports the module's programmed state. That has no overlap with crash data, which the airbag module writes permanently the moment a deployment happens and which cannot be erased by a scan tool. Programming a blank table is ordinary service work.

Does our reset clear it?

Our mail-in reset clears fault memory and returns a module to a factory ready condition. It does not write a vehicle specific configuration table into an occupant classification module. That step has to happen on the car with a tool that supports the procedure, so a reset by itself leaves B1BBD exactly where it was.
