What B0002-13 means

The airbag control module picks how many stages to fire based on crash severity and belt status. Both stages have to be available for the module to leave the system armed. B0002-13 means the second stage loop measured open, so the module cannot count on that stage and disables the system rather than run with half the deployment strategy.

Stage 2 shares the route stage 1 takes. It runs from the module, up the column, through its own pair of conductors on the clockspring, and into the second igniter in the inflator. Since the clockspring carries both pairs on the same flexing ribbon, a failure there can take out one stage while leaving the other intact.

Common causes

• A clockspring with a broken stage 2 conductor while stage 1 still reads normal
• The driver airbag connector partially seated so only one stage makes contact
• An open second stage igniter inside the driver airbag inflator
• Terminal damage or a spread pin on the stage 2 pins at the module connector
• Harness damage under the steering column from previous work
• A clockspring installed without centering, stressing the ribbon at full lock

Crash data or hardware fault?

Resistance measured live is what this code reports, so it belongs with the circuit family and it comes and goes with the state of the loop. Crash data is a permanent entry instead, written when a bag fires and kept in memory until a module reset removes it, and no scan tool at the truck can reach it.

Does our reset clear it?

Clearing the module will not close an open stage 2 circuit. Fix the clockspring, the connector, or the airbag, then verify both stages read in range. Our mail in reset belongs at the end of the repair and only applies when the module is carrying crash data from an actual deployment.

Which makes throw it

Ram lists B0002-13 for the driver second stage squib circuit. It only appears on trucks fitted with a dual stage driver airbag, so its presence confirms the vehicle has staged deployment on that position.

What to do next

Measure both stage loops at the clockspring connector and compare them, because a good stage 1 next to an open stage 2 points hard at the clockspring or a half seated connector. Reseat the airbag plug fully and recheck before condemning parts.
