0X93090D covers the driver airbag vent valve on BMW, the adaptive vent used on a staged airbag, and reports it shorted to ground. The valve lets the module tune how firmly the bag inflates.
On airbags built with an adaptive vent, a small pyrotechnic or electromechanical valve controls how much gas escapes as the bag fills. Holding the vent closed gives a firmer cushion, opening it gives a softer one, and the module decides which it wants using crash severity and occupant information. That valve has its own monitored circuit, and 0X93090D says the module is reading ground on it.
The vent circuit runs the same path as the rest of the driver airbag wiring, which means it passes through the steering column and the clockspring before it reaches the wheel. It is easy to overlook because it is not a firing loop in the usual sense, but the module treats it the same way. A vent it cannot verify means a deployment it cannot control, so the system stays disarmed.
Everything about this entry is live. The ACSM measures the vent circuit on a schedule and reports what it finds, so the code follows the current state of the wiring. Crash data is stored on a completely different basis. It marks that a deployment happened, it is written permanently into the module, and no scan tool clear removes it.
A module reset will not repair a shorted vent circuit, and clearing the code hides a system that is still disarmed. Track the short down through the column and the airbag first.
