What 0X930913 means

Stage 1 is the first inflator charge in the passenger airbag, the one the module fires in nearly every deployment. The ACSM keeps a monitored circuit out to that squib and compares both wires against ground. Seeing chassis potential on either one means the loop is compromised, and the controller records 0X930913 and disables the restraint system.

Passenger airbag wiring takes a different route than driver airbag wiring, which changes where the failures are. There is no clockspring involved. The harness leaves the module, crosses behind the dash, and terminates at a connector near the top of the instrument panel or at the airbag chute. Glovebox work, HVAC work, and stereo installs all pass through that same area.

Common causes

• A yellow SRS connector at the passenger airbag pinched or grounded against the dash frame
• Harness damage from glovebox removal, HVAC service, or aftermarket stereo wiring
• Water intrusion at the passenger kick panel or under the carpet reaching the harness
• A stage 1 inflator shorted internally inside the passenger airbag
• A module pin bent against the connector shield at the ACSM
• Wiring crushed between the dash structure and a mounting bracket during reassembly

Crash data or hardware fault?

0X930913 belongs with live electrical faults. The measurement is taken repeatedly while the car runs, so the code reflects the wiring as it is now and clears once the short is repaired. A crash record is entirely separate. It says the restraint system fired, it is written permanently, and scan tools have no way to delete it.

Does our reset clear it?

Clearing this without repair is a waste of a trip. The ACSM rechecks the passenger loop at the next key cycle and logs the short again. Locate the ground path, repair it, and confirm the loop reads in range before you clear. When the passenger airbag has already deployed and the module is locked by that event, mail the ACSM to us and we take care of the stored crash data.

Which makes throw it

This is a BMW code, read out of BMW hex diagnostic software on vehicles equipped with an ACSM. Other makes describe the same circuit with completely different code numbers.

What to do next

Drop the glovebox and inspect the passenger airbag connector and the harness behind it, because that area sees the most service work and takes the most damage. Look for wire insulation worn against sheet metal edges. Disconnect the airbag to separate bag from harness, and if the inflator itself is shorted, replace the assembly.
