12-6X tells you the passenger airbag second inflator loop on an Acura is reading low. Either the two wires in the pair are touching, or one of them has found a neighboring circuit in the same harness.
A firing loop has a known resistance, and the SRS unit rejects anything outside that range in either direction. When the stage two pair behind the dash measures lower than it should, current has an extra path somewhere. Acura records that as 12-6X, blocks the passenger airbag from firing, and turns the light on until the reading normalizes.
Wire-to-wire shorts in this area usually trace back to physical damage rather than age. The dash harness gets moved for stereo installs, HVAC work, and glovebox repairs, and a bundle that gets pinched behind a bracket will eventually wear through. Once two conductors in that bundle touch, the module reads the loop as shorter than it is.
The module is reporting a measurement it takes continuously, so 12-6X is a live circuit condition. It clears itself once the extra current path is gone. Deployment data is a different animal. The module writes it at the moment the bags fire, and it stays put until the module is reset off the car.
Do not expect a reset to solve 12-6X. The short is physical, and the SRS unit will find it again on its next self test. Locate the contact point and repair it before you clear anything. Our mail-in service exists for modules locked on crash data, which is a separate fault and one that no scan tool can address.
12-6X appears in the Acura section of our code list. Match the code to the correct index for the vehicle before you start, since the same prefix can point at a different circuit on another manufacturer's chart.
Unplug the passenger airbag and measure the loop resistance at the dash harness side with the bag out of the circuit. That single reading tells you whether the short is in the wiring or inside the inflator. If the harness reads low on its own, pull the dash trim and follow the bundle looking for pinch marks, then repair the damaged section rather than splicing over it. Related codes: 12-4X, 12-8X, B2734-13.
Trace the wiring and connectors first. If the module still holds the fault after the repair, mail it to us and we will clear it.
