B2208 is Chrysler's second internal fault code for the occupant restraint controller, listed as Occupant Restraint Controller Internal 2. It reports a different internal test failure than B2207 while carrying the same meaning for the vehicle owner. Its real value is what it rules out.
The ORC validates its own operating hardware and software at power up and keeps validating through the ignition cycle. Two separate codes exist because the module runs more than one internal check, and B2208 marks the second bucket. Chrysler's theory of operation text is written the same way for both.
The line that saves the most time reads that the repair of this fault condition does not involve any external circuitry and centers on verifying the integrity of the module's internal circuitry and software validity. For an SRS code that is unusual and helpful. Nearly every other airbag code sends you into the harness with a meter. This one tells you the harness is the wrong place to look.
Seeing B2208 next to B2207 is normal, and it does not mean two things are wrong. One internal failure can trip more than one of the module's checks. Treat the pair as a single verdict on the module rather than as two separate repairs.
Hardware fault. Nothing about B2208 refers to a crash, a deployment, or stored data. The module is telling you it does not trust its own internals, and it will keep saying so until the failure is addressed.
Depends on the module. Our crash data reset puts a module holding accident data back to factory ready condition, and it cannot repair failed silicon. What it can do is settle the question, because a module that clears and passes in our shop was never internally bad to begin with.
Ship us the unit and we will test it. If it is genuinely failed we will say so, and we can help you source the correct replacement airbag control module for your VIN. Ordering by model year alone is how people end up with B1BA5, a configuration mismatch, stacked on top of the problem they started with.
B2208 runs across the Chrysler group, so Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles with an ORC can all set it. Service charts carry it on vehicles as varied as the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the 2011 Dodge Durango, the 2013 Chrysler 200, and the 2013 Ram 1500. It stayed in use after FCA moved most squib codes to the generic B00 range, so a fairly new truck and a fifteen year old SUV can report the same number.
Verify the fault is repeatable across several full key cycles, then look at what the module has been living in. Water is the first thing to rule out and system voltage is the second. Note the module's part number and your VIN before you make any decision about replacing it.
B2207 is the companion internal code, B1BD0 covers the internal rollover circuit, and B1342 shows how the same defective module idea is worded on other makes.

Code scope: Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram. The same number can mean something different on another manufacturer, so match the code to your make before you act on it.
A reset clears stored crash data. A replacement part fixes a hardware fault. We have read these codes since the nineties and will tell you which one you are looking at.
