B1C29 means the occupant restraint controller sent its check current down the left seat thorax airbag circuit and found nothing on the other end. The thorax bag is the side airbag built into the outboard bolster of the driver seat, and its wiring runs under a seat that moves, which is where most of these start.
The factory description is LEFT SIDE SEAT THORAX SQUIB 1 OPEN. Chrysler documents the monitor in detail: the ORC sends out a 40 milliamp diagnostic current on each squib voltage supply circuit at power up and every 500 milliseconds after that with the ignition on, and the code sets when it detects an open on the squib circuit for more than 2.5 seconds.
Two wires make up the loop. On the Wrangler chart they are (R31) left seat squib line 1 and (R33) left seat squib line 2. On the minivan chart the same pair is named (R7) and (R5), left seat thorax squib 1 line 1 and line 2. The circuit names move around by platform while the circuit stays the same, and Chrysler's spec for each of those wires is resistance below 1.0 ohm end to end.
The factory cause list is short: line 1 open, line 2 open, the left seat squib airbag, or the ORC. On the vehicles we see, the connector under the seat accounts for most of them.
Circuit fault. The ORC measures this loop live and reports the condition of the wiring in front of it right now. It is not a crash record and it does not lock the module.
A vehicle that actually deployed its left thorax bag will show B1C29 for the open loop and will also be holding deployment data from the same impact. Those are two separate repairs on one vehicle, and the deployment record is the part no scan tool can erase.
No. Clearing memory does nothing about a circuit that is open, and the code returns as soon as the ORC runs its next check.
Work the wiring first. Chrysler's chart uses the 8443 load tool to substitute a known good load at the seat connector, which separates a bad bag from a bad harness in one step. If the bag itself is open, we list genuine OEM seat airbags, and they are specific to seat trim and side, so have the build details ready. Once the hardware is right and the vehicle is holding crash data from an impact, our airbag module reset clears that record from your original ORC.
B1C29 belongs to the Chrysler ORC code set and appears on Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler vehicles with seat mounted side airbags, including the 2010 Wrangler and the 2011 Grand Caravan whose charts are quoted here. Vehicles ordered without seat side airbags do not have this circuit at all, which is worth confirming if you are chasing the code after a module swap. The right seat carries its own code.
Move the seat all the way forward and look underneath it. Find the squib connector, unlatch it, check the terminals for green film and for pins that have spread or backed out, then reseat it until it clicks and rescan. If the code is stored rather than active, work the seat through its full travel while watching the data, since a harness that only opens at one seat position will not show itself sitting still.
When the connector is clean and the code stays, put a load tool on the harness side. If the code clears with the load connected, the bag is the failed part. If it stays, the open is in the wiring between the seat and the module. Side impact damage often puts B1B18 and B1B19 on the curtain circuit at the same time, so read every stored code before ordering parts.
