What B1B07 means

A firing loop has a feed side and a return side, and the only connection between them is supposed to be the bridge wire inside the inflator. When those two conductors touch anywhere else, resistance collapses toward zero and the controller stores B1B07. It disables the system because a shorted loop cannot be counted on to fire correctly.

Shorted together is more specific than a general low reading. It tells you the two squib 2 wires are contacting each other, which narrows the search to places where both conductors run side by side, meaning the clockspring, the airbag connector, and any spot where the pair is bundled.

Common causes

• A clockspring with the squib 2 conductors shorted internally
• Insulation worn off both wires where the pair passes a sharp edge in the column
• A connector with terminals bridged by moisture or corrosion
• A crushed section of the pair from a steering column or dash repair
• An inflator that has shorted across its own terminals

Crash data or hardware fault?

B1B07 is a circuit code, describing a condition the controller can measure at any moment. Separate the conductors and the reading returns to normal. Crash data works on the other model entirely, written permanently the moment airbags deploy and untouchable by a scan tool.

Does our reset clear it?

Resetting the module does nothing for a shorted circuit. The controller tests the loop again immediately and records the fault a second time.
