What B1B08 means

Squib 1 fires the first stage of the passenger airbag in the instrument panel. The occupant restraint controller tests that loop constantly, looking for a resistance inside a tight range. A low value means current is finding an easier route than the inflator bridge wire, which usually points to two conductors touching somewhere or an inflator that has shorted inside.

The path being measured covers more than the airbag. It includes the controller pins, the harness running across the dash, the yellow connector behind the glovebox area, and the inflator winding itself. Any of those can pull the reading down, so the code names a circuit rather than a part.

Common causes

• A yellow SRS connector behind the dash that is damaged or only partly latched
• Harness insulation rubbed through against a bracket or an HVAC duct
• An inflator that has shorted internally inside the passenger airbag module
• Damage from glovebox, radio, or dash work where the SRS harness was moved
• Moisture or coolant intrusion at the passenger kick panel reaching the connector

Crash data or hardware fault?

B1B08 tracks a live electrical value, so it belongs to the circuit group. It reflects what the loop measures right now and clears once the reading returns to normal. Crash data sits in a separate part of memory, gets written only when a deployment happens, and stays there permanently no matter what a scan tool does.

Does our reset clear it?

Our mail-in reset does not solve a low passenger squib circuit. The controller re-measures that loop on the next startup and the code returns. Repair the wiring, connector, or airbag first, then clear codes on the vehicle. Where the reset does apply is a module that also holds a deployment record from a previous crash, which no scan tool can erase.

Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep all use B1B08 with the same definition across the vehicles that run the occupant restraint controller.

What to do next

Start behind the dash at the passenger airbag connector with the battery disconnected and the system bled down, since a connector knocked loose during other dash work costs nothing to rule out. Then measure resistance at the controller connector to decide whether the fault lives in the harness or inside the airbag.
