What B1B05 means

A firing circuit with too much resistance may not pass enough current to set off the second stage when it is needed, so the controller treats a high reading as seriously as a short. B1B05 is written when the squib 2 measurement climbs past the top of its allowed window on the driver airbag.

High resistance faults tend to be connection faults. A terminal that is corroded, a pin that has spread, or a clockspring contact that is wearing thin will all add resistance without breaking the circuit outright, which is why these often come and go before they stay.

Common causes

• Worn contacts inside the clockspring on the squib 2 circuit
• Corroded or spread terminals at the driver airbag connector
• A poor crimp from an earlier harness repair in the column
• Oxidation at the controller connector pins
• An inflator second stage reading above its normal resistance

Crash data or hardware fault?

This code follows a measurement the controller takes constantly, placing it in the circuit family. Clean up the connection and the reading returns to normal on the next check. Crash data behaves nothing like that, since it is a permanent deployment record in module memory that survives every code clear.

Does our reset clear it?

Our mail-in reset does not lower resistance in a firing loop. The controller retests squib 2 on the next startup and writes B1B05 again if nothing changed. Service the connector or replace the clockspring or airbag, then clear codes at the vehicle. The reset service is for modules carrying crash data or a stored internal fault.
