B1745 reports a failed pressure-type side impact sensor on the passenger side. That sensor sits inside the door and senses the pressure change when the door skin deforms.
Pressure sensors take a different approach than accelerometer based side sensors. Sealed inside the door cavity, they watch air pressure, which spikes the instant a door is struck. That gives the module a very fast signal. B1745 sets when the passenger side unit fails its self check or stops delivering a usable pressure reading.
Because the sensor depends on a sealed door cavity, the door itself is part of the system. A missing vapor barrier, a torn seal, or a door skin repaired with openings left behind changes what the sensor sees. Those conditions can push a healthy sensor into reporting a fault, which is why the door gets inspected before the part gets replaced.
Kia calls this a hardware fault because the module is reporting a component condition rather than a measurement on a wire. It is not stored crash data. Crash data records a deployment, stays in the module permanently, and comes out only when the module is reset.
The mail-in reset clears stored codes and crash data from a Kia module, and B1745 goes with them. A sensor that is still failing writes the code back immediately. Handle the door, the seal, and the sensor first, then use the reset if the module is also locked from a deployment.
Kia reports B1745 for the passenger pressure-type side impact sensor. Pressure sensing and accelerometer sensing both appear in Kia side systems, so confirm which type your door actually has before ordering.
Take the door panel off and check the vapor barrier and the door seals first, because a cavity that no longer holds pressure is a common reason this sensor reports a fault. Inspect the connector and the jamb harness for water and wear. When the door is sealed properly and the sensor still fails, replace it with a genuine OEM unit. Related codes: B1684, B1762, 01221.
