What B1635 means

Curtain shield airbags deploy down over the side glass, and these systems use dedicated sensors to detect the kind of impact that should trigger them. The left curtain shield sensor is mounted out at the body structure on the driver side. B1635 is stored when that sensor fails its checks or reports data the module will not accept.

A malfunction code names the sensor rather than the wire, which narrows the job. Mounting still matters. These sensors are calibrated to read the structure they are bolted to, so a loose fastener, a bracket bent in a previous repair, or a unit reused from a damaged vehicle can all produce a malfunction report from hardware that looks fine.
