What B1382 means

The SRSCM wants to see a specific low resistance across a squib. When the number comes back high, current is meeting more opposition than it should somewhere in the path. That usually means a connection that is not making full contact: a dirty terminal, a partly seated connector, or a corroded pin. A squib that is opening up internally reads the same way.

High readings are frequently intermittent before they become permanent. The connector under the passenger seat makes and breaks contact as the seat moves, and a terminal with light corrosion can pass its test one day and fail it the next. A code that is stored but not currently active is worth taking seriously for exactly that reason.

Common causes

• A connector under the passenger seat that is corroded or not fully latched
• Terminal tension lost after repeated disconnection during seat work
• A squib beginning to open inside the passenger seat side airbag
• A harness conductor partially broken where the seat wiring flexes
• Oxidation on the module connector pins

Crash data or hardware fault?

The module measures this circuit every time it runs, so B1382 belongs to the circuit family and goes inactive once the reading drops back into range. Crash data has nothing to do with measurements. It records a deployment, stays in the module permanently, and requires a reset to remove.

Does our reset clear it?

There is nothing a reset can do about a high resistance reading. Clear it and the module measures the same connection again. Clean or replace the connector, repair the harness, or replace the airbag depending on where the extra resistance sits. Kia uses B1382 for the passenger front side airbag reading high. The same seat position has a separate code for a low reading, which is useful because the two point at opposite kinds of failure.

What to do next

Measure the loop at the seat connector and then at the airbag itself, since comparing the two tells you immediately whether the extra resistance is in the harness or the squib.
