B1379: Driver Side Airbag Resistance Low

What B1379 means

Side airbags on these vehicles are packed into the outboard bolster of the seat back. The firing loop reaches them through the floor harness and a connector under the seat. When the SRSCM measures that loop and gets a number below the minimum, it stores B1379 and stops arming the system, because the circuit is not behaving like a healthy squib.

Low readings on seat circuits often trace to the connector rather than the airbag. Terminals corrode, pins get bent during seat installation, and moisture creates a path between them. The seat also moves through its travel thousands of times, working the harness underneath it in a way no other airbag circuit experiences.

Common causes

• Corroded or bridged terminals in the connector under the driver seat
• Harness insulation worn where the wiring flexes with seat travel
• A shorted squib inside the driver seat side airbag
• A pin bent or pushed together during seat removal and reinstallation
• Liquid spilled into the seat connector

Crash data or hardware fault?

Resistance is measured live, so B1379 is a circuit family code that clears on its own once the loop reads normally. Crash data is not measured at all. It is written when the airbag fires, stored permanently, and only a module reset removes it.

Does our reset clear it?

Clearing this one without fixing the circuit is temporary at best. The module retests the loop and B1379 comes back. Repair the connector, the harness, or the airbag first. When a Kia has deployed and the module is locked with crash data, mailing it to us is the step that gets the system able to arm again.

Which makes throw it

Kia reports B1379 for the driver front side airbag. Resistance faults in the other direction and on the passenger side use their own numbers in the same block, so the code already tells you which seat and which direction.

What to do next

Unplug the connector under the driver seat and look closely at the terminals, since corrosion in that plug is the most common source of a low reading. Measure the airbag on its own to see whether the squib is within specification. If the squib reads low, the seat side airbag needs replacement, and we carry genuine OEM Kia units.
