B1333: Passenger Front Impact Sensor Failed

What B1333 means

This sensor lives on the passenger side of the front structure, ahead of the cabin, where it measures deceleration during an impact. It runs its own self checks and reports its condition back to the SRSCM. A failure report, or readings the module recognizes as invalid, produces B1333 and takes the system out of service.

Front sensors live in a rough environment. They sit low and forward where water, salt, and road debris reach them, and they take the brunt of any minor front end hit. A sensor that survived a collision visually may still have been shocked hard enough to fail its internal checks afterward.

Common causes

• Internal electronic failure within the passenger side impact sensor
• Physical damage from a front end collision, even a minor one
• Water finding its way into the sensor housing or connector
• Corrosion at the connector disturbing the sensor supply and ground
• A sensor reused from a vehicle that had already been in a wreck

Crash data or hardware fault?

Hyundai classes this as a hardware fault because the part is bad rather than the loop being out of range. Stored crash data is the permanent kind of memory in the same module: written once during a deployment and impossible to clear with a scan tool. A wrecked car frequently has both at the same time.

Does our reset clear it?

A module reset will not revive a dead sensor. What our service does is restore an SRSCM that is locked on crash data, returning it to its original factory state so it arms again after the physical repairs. Replace the sensor first. If the car deployed, the module almost certainly needs the reset as well, and the two jobs are separate.

Which makes throw it

Hyundai is the make that reports B1333, the passenger side counterpart to the driver front sensor failure code. Both read through Hyundai scan tools in the same front sensor group.

What to do next

Check the sensor connector for water and corrosion and confirm a solid supply and ground before condemning the part, because a starved sensor can report as failed. Look over the mounting bracket and the surrounding structure for signs of impact.
