B1009 is a Nissan and Infiniti air bag control unit code from the B1006 to B1010 block. The diagnosis sensor unit flagged an internal fault during its start-up check. It is also one of the codes a basic scan tool will never show you.
On a Nissan or Infiniti, the restraint system runs its own diagnostics separate from the engine computer. The diagnosis sensor unit checks itself and the circuits it watches every time the ignition goes to ON, and it reports trouble two ways: through the air bag lamp in the cluster, and through stored codes readable with CONSULT, the factory scan tool.
B1009 is one result of that check. Nissan documents B1006 through B1010 as a single item, out of order, with an internal breakdown in the unit given as the cause. The lamp behavior is what most owners notice first. A steady light and a blinking light are both messages, and on the older systems the blink pattern is how the unit reports the fault when no factory tool is connected.
This is why an inexpensive code reader shows nothing at all. Those tools read powertrain data. The SRS lives on its own line and takes a tool that can address the restraint module directly.
Hardware. B1009 is the unit calling out a problem with itself, which groups it with B1000, B1342, and B1620 rather than with a stored deployment. Nissan's own procedure treats it that way: check the connector, check the harness, then replace the unit. The one thing worth ruling out first is an intermittent, since a code can sit in memory from a fault that is no longer present.
It depends on whether the fault is live or historical. A stored code from an intermittent that has since been repaired clears with our airbag module reset.
