What B0050-13 means

Inside the driver buckle is a small switch that changes state when the tongue clicks in. The airbag control module reads that switch to decide deployment strategy and to drive the belt reminder. B0050-13 means the circuit to that switch is open, so the module has no valid belt status for the driver position.

Buckle switch wiring takes abuse that firing circuits do not. The lead runs out of the buckle stalk, down beside the seat, and under the floor to the module. People step on it, seats roll over it, cargo gets dragged across it, and coins and debris work into the buckle itself. All of those show up as the same open circuit.

Common causes

• A broken conductor in the buckle lead where it exits the stalk and flexes with seat travel
• The buckle connector under the seat unplugged or partially latched after seat work
• A failed switch inside the buckle assembly
• Debris or a spilled drink inside the buckle interfering with the switch contacts
• The harness crushed under a seat rail or mounting bolt
• Corroded terminals at the under seat connector from water on the floor

Crash data or hardware fault?

The module reads this switch circuit live, which puts B0050-13 in the circuit family alongside the squib codes even though nothing here fires. It clears when the circuit is whole again. Crash data is unrelated to switch status: it is a permanent deployment record that only a module reset removes.

Does our reset clear it?

There is nothing for a reset to do here. The module is reporting an open in a switch circuit, and the code will return until that circuit is repaired. Replace the buckle assembly or fix the wiring, then confirm the module sees the belt latch and unlatch.
