SRS fault code

A3-1X: SRS Connector A Not Installed

A3-1X means SRS connector A is not properly installed at the SRS unit. The module has detected that its own main connector is not seated the way it should be, so the system stays disabled.

Circuit fault

What A3-1X means

Honda labels the connectors at the SRS unit by letter, and connector A carries a set of the circuits the module depends on. The unit can tell when that connector is not fully home because the pins it expects to see tied together through the connector body are not reading correctly. That condition gets stored as A3-1X.

Unlike most SRS faults, this one usually traces back to a person rather than to wear. Battery service, carpet work, console removal, or a module swap all involve unplugging that connector, and the locking lever has to be pushed all the way over to latch it. A connector that looks plugged in can still be half a click short of seated.

Common causes

Crash data or hardware fault?

Connector faults like this one are live conditions, so the code reflects the situation as it exists right now. Crash data is the permanent sort of entry, written after a deployment and not clearable with a scan tool. Seat the connector properly and A3-1X clears with the next system check.

Does our reset clear it?

A reset is not the tool for this code, because nothing about the module memory is the problem. Our mail-in service clears locked crash data and restores the module after a deployment, and it does nothing for a connector that is not seated. Latch the connector correctly first and see whether anything remains.

Which makes throw it

Honda uses A3-1X. It is one of the codes in Honda's letter-prefixed range, and it names connector A at the SRS unit specifically rather than any restraint circuit out in the vehicle.

What to do next

Unplug connector A completely and reseat it, listening and feeling for the lock lever to travel its full stroke, because a partially latched connector is the whole story most of the time. Inspect the pin faces for bent terminals or green corrosion while it is apart. If the locking tab is broken, the connector or its pigtail needs repair before the module will read it as installed. Related codes: 92-2X, B00D5, B1410.

A3-1X points at a circuit, not the module

Fix the circuit, then clear the code.

Trace the wiring and connectors first. If the module still holds the fault after the repair, mail it to us and we will clear it.
