SRS fault code

92-2X: Passenger Airbag Cutoff Indicator Fault

92-2X covers an open or a short to ground in the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator circuit. The indicator is the light that tells occupants whether the passenger airbag is switched off, and the SRS unit has found its circuit out of range.

Circuit fault

What 92-2X means

The cutoff indicator is a lamp the SRS unit drives so people can see the state of the passenger airbag. The unit monitors that lamp circuit the same way it monitors any output it controls, watching for a path that is broken or one that is leaking to ground. Either condition puts 92-2X in memory.

What matters here is that the fault sits in the indicator circuit, not in the airbag or the occupant detection system. The passenger airbag may be functioning exactly as designed while the light that reports its status is not. Because that light is part of how the system communicates with occupants, the SRS unit still flags it.

Common causes

Crash data or hardware fault?

92-2X is a live circuit report, describing what the indicator loop reads right now. Crash data is the opposite: written once during a deployment, held permanently, and untouchable with a scan tool. Once the indicator circuit measures normal, this code stops setting.

Does our reset clear it?

Nothing about a module reset repairs an indicator circuit. The service exists to clear locked crash data and restore a module to its ready state after a deployment, and an open or shorted lamp circuit is a wiring repair. Fix the indicator, the harness, or the connector, then consider the reset only if the module is carrying crash data too.

Which makes throw it

Honda is the make listed for 92-2X. The second pair of characters is what tells you the unit saw either an open or a short to ground rather than another condition in the 92 group.

What to do next

Check the indicator itself first, since a dead bulb or a failed lamp assembly reads to the module as an open circuit and is the easiest thing to rule out. Work back through the connector behind the dash next, particularly if the dash has been apart recently. A circuit that reads shorted rather than open usually means chafed insulation, so look for rub points where the harness crosses metal. Related codes: 86-1X, A3-1X, B1861.

92-2X points at a circuit, not the module

Fix the circuit, then clear the code.

Trace the wiring and connectors first. If the module still holds the fault after the repair, mail it to us and we will clear it.
