93E2 is a BMW circuit code on a seat belt pretensioner. The module measured the firing circuit for that pretensioner and got a value outside the range it will accept.
A pretensioner is the charge that yanks belt slack out at the start of a crash. The module keeps a monitored loop running to it and checks resistance and isolation on a schedule. A reading that is too high, too low, or in contact with ground or power gets stored, and the module stops arming the restraint system until the reading is right.
The definition does not specify which seat, so start by reading the full scan and any subcode or position information the tool provides. Pretensioners live in the retractors, which means B-pillar or seat mounted locations up front and pillar or seat back locations in the rear. Knowing which one the module is talking about saves a lot of trim removal.
Live circuit faults behave predictably. The module keeps measuring the pretensioner loop, so the entry tracks the actual condition of the wiring and the device and it clears once the value returns to range. Crash data behaves in the opposite way. It is the permanent record written when the pretensioner fires, and no scan tool can erase it from the module.
A reset does not put a pretensioner circuit back in range. Repair the connector, harness, or belt assembly first, then clear the code the usual way. A pretensioner that already fired is a single use device and the belt has to be replaced, and in that case the module is almost certainly holding crash data too. That stored record is what our mail-in reset service removes.
BMW uses 93E2 for pretensioner circuit faults, read through BMW hex diagnostic software. Every manufacturer monitors pretensioner circuits, but the code numbers do not carry over between brands.
Identify which pretensioner the module means before pulling any trim, using the scan tool's position data or by checking which belts the vehicle has. Reseat the connector at that retractor and recheck, since an unlatched plug is quick to rule out and causes a large share of these. If the pretensioner reads out of range once disconnected from the harness, it needs a genuine OEM belt assembly and we stock them. Related codes: 93C1, 9C8A, B007F-11.
Trace the wiring and connectors first. If the module still holds the fault after the repair, mail it to us and we will clear it.
