Low resistance on the right side curtain airbag inflator loop is what produces 34-3X on Acura. The two wires in the firing pair are touching, or one of them has met another circuit somewhere along the roof.
Firing loops are designed to read inside a narrow resistance band, and the SRS unit rejects values on either side of it. A reading below the band on the right curtain circuit tells the module current has found a shortcut. Acura stores 34-3X, takes the curtain out of service, and holds the warning light on until the measurement recovers.
Almost all of these trace to the overhead harness. The curtain pair runs behind the headliner along the roof rail and down a pillar, sharing that space with lighting and sunroof circuits. Headliner work, glass replacement, and roof rack installations all create opportunities for the loom to get pinched, clipped, or drilled.
34-3X reports a present-tense measurement, so it stands only while the short exists. Clear the extra current path and the module sees a normal loop on its next check. Stored crash data operates under different rules, written at the instant of deployment and held in memory until the module is reset off the vehicle.
A module reset is not the repair for 34-3X, because the short is a physical condition in the wiring or the curtain. The code returns as soon as the SRS unit runs its next test. Locate the contact point, repair it, then clear. Where our mail-in reset earns its keep is a module locked after airbags and curtains have actually fired.
Look for 34-3X in the Acura part of our code list. Confirm the code against the correct manufacturer list first, because roof and curtain circuits are numbered differently from one chart to the next.
Pull the right A-pillar trim and the front edge of the headliner and look for clip damage, drilled holes, and water staining along the rail. Unplug the curtain and measure the loop at the harness side, which separates the assembly from the wiring in one reading. If the harness alone reads low, follow the loom back along the rail and repair the damaged section properly instead of taping over it. Related codes: 34-1X, 41-2X, B1802.
Trace the wiring and connectors first. If the module still holds the fault after the repair, mail it to us and we will clear it.
