What 33-1X means

A curtain airbag is a long tube tucked above the headliner from the A pillar to the C pillar, with its inflator at one end. The firing loop reaches it by running up the pillar behind the trim. When the SRS unit tests that loop and finds no path, it stores 33-1X and disables the curtain until the circuit is repaired.

The wiring lives in a place people take apart without thinking about airbags. Headliner drops, pillar trim removal, roof rack installs, and windshield replacement all put hands on the same harness. Water leaks follow the same route, running down the pillar and into the connector, so a rust-stained connector at the A pillar is worth a close look.

• Curtain airbag connector at the pillar left unplugged after headliner or trim work
• Harness damaged during windshield replacement or roof work
• Water leaking down the A pillar into the connector and corroding the pins
• An open inflator inside the curtain airbag assembly
• A trim clip or screw driven through the roof rail harness

Crash data or hardware fault?

The unit is reporting a measurement it takes continuously, which puts 33-1X in the live fault category. Crash data is the permanent kind: recorded once during a deployment and locked in the module where no scan tool reaches it. As soon as the curtain loop reads normal, this code stops coming back.

Does our reset clear it?

Clearing the module does not restore a broken curtain circuit. Our reset service exists for stored crash data, and it returns the module to a ready state once the physical repairs are complete. With 33-1X the repair comes first: reconnect or replace what is open, verify the loop, and only then consider whether the module also holds deployment data that needs clearing.

Which makes throw it

Honda reports 33-1X, and it is the left curtain entry in the same 30 series that covers the seat-mounted side airbags. The second pair of characters narrows down the exact condition the unit found in that loop.

What to do next

Start where the trim was last off. Pull the A pillar cover and check the curtain connector for a latch that never seated or pins showing green corrosion. If the connector is clean and tight, measure through the loop to see whether the break is in the pillar harness or the inflator itself.
