What 2C means

A belt tension sensor sits at the passenger belt anchor and measures the load in the webbing. A child seat cinched down tight pulls very differently from an adult wearing the belt normally, and the system uses that difference alongside occupant detection to decide how to handle the passenger airbag. Code 2C says that sensor is no longer reporting usable values.

The sensor lives at the bottom of the belt, close to the floor and the seat track, which is a hard place to survive. Its wiring gets stepped on, its connector sits where water collects, and its anchor gets unbolted any time the seat comes out. All of that shows up in the failure pattern.

Common causes

• A failed load sensing element inside the belt tension sensor
• A damaged or corroded connector at the belt anchor
• Wiring crushed or cut where it runs along the floor to the anchor point
• An anchor bolt torqued wrong or reinstalled with the sensor bound up
• Water or spilled liquid reaching the sensor at floor level
• A used belt assembly installed with a sensor that was already failing

Crash data or hardware fault?

Code 2C is a hardware fault a component reports live, not a crash record. It comes back after every scan tool clear as long as the sensor is bad. Crash data is the permanent entry made when the belts and airbags fire, and that is the entry a module reset removes.

Does our reset clear it?
