Honda code 11-8X means the driver's airbag first inflator circuit is shorted to power. Voltage is getting onto a firing loop that should only see the module's own test current.
The SRS unit feeds the driver airbag inflator circuit and expects to control both sides of that loop. Code 11-8X is stored when battery voltage finds its way onto the circuit from somewhere else, which is a serious condition because an unintended voltage source on a firing loop is exactly what the system is designed to guard against.
The driver circuit on a Honda runs through the cable reel in the steering column, the rotating connection that keeps the airbag wired while the wheel turns. A worn cable reel or a wiring fault near the column is where a short to power usually originates.
This is a live circuit condition rather than a record of a crash. The SRS unit is reporting voltage it sees on the loop right now, and the reading changes the moment the wiring does. Crash data is a permanent entry written when airbags deploy, and clearing codes on the vehicle does not remove it from the unit.
Clearing the unit does not remove voltage from the firing circuit, and the fault will be found again as soon as the system runs its check. Repair the cable reel or the wiring first.
