A short on the driver airbag first inflator loop is what sets 11-3X. The SRS unit is reading less resistance than the circuit should have, which happens when the two loop wires touch each other or touch another circuit in the bundle.
Resistance in a firing loop sits inside a narrow window by design. When the reading drops under that window, the SRS unit knows current is finding a path it was never meant to have. Honda and Acura file that condition under 11-3X for the driver first inflator, block deployment, and keep the light on until the value comes back where it belongs.
Two situations create the low reading. The pair of wires feeding the inflator can wear through their insulation and touch each other, or one of them can contact a neighboring circuit in the same harness. Both show up most often where the wiring flexes, and on this circuit the flexing happens inside the steering column and at the cable reel.
This is a live circuit fault rather than a locked deployment record. The SRS unit measures the loop continuously and 11-3X stays present only while the short is present. A crash code is written once, at the moment of deployment, and stays in the module no matter how many times power is cycled.
Treat 11-3X as a wiring repair rather than a reset job. The short is a physical condition in the wiring or the inflator, and the code returns the moment the module retests the loop. Find and fix the contact point first. Our mail-in reset comes into play when the same module is also holding deployment data from a crash, which is a separate condition a scan tool cannot touch.
Both Acura and Honda use 11-3X for a low-resistance driver first inflator loop. The definition does not change between the badges, so the same test procedure applies on either one.
Look for the short before you order any parts. Unplug the driver airbag and read the loop at the column connector with the bag disconnected, which tells you immediately whether the low reading lives in the bag or upstream of it. If the reading is still low with the airbag out of the circuit, work back through the column toward the SRS unit and look for rub marks and moisture at each connector. Trace the wiring and connectors first. If the module still holds the fault after the repair, mail it to us and we will clear it.
