The occupant detection system is a small subsystem with its own electronics, and it reports occupancy status to the ACSM over a communication line. A communication fault means that exchange broke down. Either the ODS is not transmitting, the line between them is interrupted, or the messages arriving are corrupted badly enough that the module discards them.

Losing that message has a real consequence. Without a trustworthy occupancy status the module cannot decide whether to arm or suppress the passenger airbag, so it takes a default position and lights the warning lamp. That is why the passenger airbag off indicator often behaves strangely when this code is present, showing a state that does not match who is actually sitting there.

• A seat floor connector unlatched or damaged after the seat was removed
• A broken or chafed conductor in the seat harness where it flexes with seat travel
• Corrosion at the ODS connector from wet carpet or a spill
• A failed ODS control unit that no longer transmits

• A power or ground fault to the ODS electronics

Crash data or hardware fault?

0X930A14 describes a live condition on a communication path, so it is not stored crash data. The module rechecks that path at every key cycle and the entry clears when messages start arriving again. A crash record is written at the moment of deployment, holds no information about current wiring, and cannot be cleared with a scan tool.
