What FX-11 means

Once the system deploys, the control module permanently records that it happened. That record is FX-11 on the Honda side of the family, and it exists so a module that has already fired cannot quietly go back into service. With the record in memory the module refuses to arm, the warning light stays on, and any new airbag or tensioner connected to it sits inactive.

This entry behaves nothing like a wiring code. It is not a measurement the module retakes at key-on, so there is no repair that makes it go away. Replacing the bags, the tensioners, and every damaged sensor on the car still leaves FX-11 in memory. The record has to be cleared from the module directly, which is done off the vehicle.

Common causes

• Front airbags deployed in a collision
• Seat belt tensioners fired, which happens in impacts that do not always set off the bags
• Side airbags or curtains deployed in a side impact or a rollover
• A used module installed from a donor car that had already deployed
• A module previously cleared improperly, leaving the deployment record in place

Crash data or hardware fault?

FX-11 is stored crash data, which is the opposite of a circuit code in every practical way. A circuit code reflects a live reading and clears itself once the wiring is right. A deployment record is written once, locked, and kept by design, because the module is supposed to make it obvious that this car has been in a crash.

FX-11 is the locked deployment record used across the Honda family, so it appears on both Honda and Acura. The meaning does not change between the two, and neither does the fact that it survives every attempt to clear it with a scan tool.

Account for every deployed component before you think about the module, because a module reset on a car that is still missing an airbag just buys you a new code. Inspect the bags, the tensioners, the front and side impact sensors, and any clockspring or wiring damaged in the crash.
